About Air-Operated Diaphragm (AODD)

Air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pumps run on compressed air instead of an electric motor, which makes them simple, portable, and well suited to drum and tote unloading, transfer in wet or classified areas, and CIP service. CSI supplies FDA-compliant sanitary AODD pumps — including PSG Wilden Saniflo — for food, beverage, and personal-care duty.

Because they're seal-less and self-priming, AODD pumps handle shear-sensitive and particulate product gently, can run dry without damage, and stall safely against a closed valve. That combination makes them a flexible, low-maintenance choice for intermittent and changeover-heavy operations.

Frequently Asked

Air-Operated Diaphragm (AODD) FAQ

Reach for an AODD when you need a portable, seal-less pump for drum or tote unloading, transfer in wet or hazardous areas, or duty that may run dry or dead-head. They're gentle on shear-sensitive product and tolerate solids well.

Yes — that's a key advantage. Air-operated diaphragm pumps can run dry without damage and stall safely when they hit a closed valve, then resume when flow opens, which makes them forgiving in changeover-heavy operations.

Sanitary AODD pumps such as the Wilden Saniflo use FDA-compliant wetted materials (316L, PTFE, and approved elastomers) and hygienic construction for food, beverage, and personal-care service. Confirm the wetted-material spec for your product.
